Israel launched the counterterrorism operation Iron Wall in the Jordan River's West Bank on Tuesday, January 21, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reports.

According to Netanyahu, the objective of the operation is the "eradication of terrorism" in the city of Jenin, located in the State of Palestine on the West Bank. The Israel Defense Forces is carrying out the operation.

"This is another step toward achieving the goal we have set - to strengthen security in Judea and Samaria. We are acting systematically and decisively against the Iranian axis wherever it extends its reach - in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Judea, and Samaria," Netanyahu wrote.

The operation began shortly after Israel and the Hamas militant group reached an agreement on a ceasefire and the mutual release of hostages.

The ceasefire agreement came into effect on January 19. On the same day, Hamas militants released three female hostages, while Israel committed to releasing 90 Palestinian prisoners.
