Iskanders, KN-23s and more: How Ukrainian air defenses repel Russia’s massive attack

Last night, Russia launched another massive attack on various regions of Ukraine. This time, the enemy used a large number of missiles and drones of different types, according to a report by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The new enemy attack began at 6:00 p.m. Kyiv time on October 6.
During the attack, Russian forces used:
- Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles launched from Russia's Rostov region;
- Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from Russia's Bryansk and Voronezh regions;
- 48 air-, land- and sea-launched Kh-101, Iskander-K and Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Vologda and Kursk regions, as well as from the Caspian Sea;
- 130 Shahed-type attack UAVs, including 46 jet-powered drones, as well as Gerbera and Parodiya decoy drones. The UAVs were launched from areas around Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, temporarily occupied Donetsk, and Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea.
The main targets of the attack were the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The air attack was repelled by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defense Forces.
As of 9:00 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had destroyed or suppressed 161 aerial targets:
- 5 Iskander-M/KN-23/S-400/Zircon/Onyx ballistic missiles;
- 39 Kh-101, Iskander-K and Kalibr cruise missiles. Information on another six cruise missiles is being clarified;
- 117 Shahed, Gerbera and other types of enemy UAVs, including 38 jet-powered drones.
At the same time, missile and attack UAV strikes were recorded at 18 locations. In another five locations, downed aerial targets or their debris fell.
The attack is ongoing. Enemy drones are still in Ukrainian airspace.
