Is Poland ready to send troops to Ukraine: What Tusk says
When discussing the deployment of a foreign contingent to Ukraine, the point is to develop a stable mechanism for the period after the end of hostilities. The Polish side cannot act at its own discretion, according to a statement by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"When I'm asked if Poland is ready to send its soldiers to Ukraine as a security guarantor (which we have discussed a lot), this is not a plan of Ukraine or Poland. It's not about showing how closely we are connected. It's about real security guarantees that everyone will adhere to, and Russia, in particular, will be afraid to violate them," Tusk said.
According to him, for this, Poland needs all of its allies.
"Our job is not to announce now whether we will send or not send a contingent. Our job is to convince all NATO partners, Europeans, and the US to be ready together to create a stable mechanism that will guarantee security and (our - ed.) behavior and conditions in the event of the end of hostilities," added the Polish Prime Minister.
It is worth noting that today President Zelenskyy said that the idea of a foreign contingent is being discussed with France, the Baltic countries, and contacts on this issue are planned with the United Kingdom.
He said that such a contingent could only be part of security guarantees for Ukraine.
As of today, most NATO countries are opposed to this idea. Germany, for example, would only consider sending its troops to Ukraine if Russia agrees.
