Iran has warned neighboring states about the possible consequences of supporting the US campaign targeting its economy. Tehran said regional countries that join the measures could lose their status as Iran's partners, according to Al Jazeera.

Iranian Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei warned neighboring countries that Iran could respond if they participate in the US campaign against the Iranian economy.

In an interview with state-run broadcaster IRIB, he urged countries in the region not to join the US measures.

"Any country that takes part in imposing economic restrictions on us will be regarded as an enemy," Rezaei said.

Tehran outlines three stages of its strategy

Rezaei said Iran's regional strategy consists of three stages. The first would be an attempt to reduce tensions in relations with neighboring states.

According to him, Tehran plans to hold talks first and then try to persuade its neighbors to distance themselves from the United States.

"Of course, we will first negotiate with them. We will hold talks and tell them to step aside and distance themselves from the United States," the Iranian official said.

According to him, countries that continue to support the US will be given time to reconsider their decision.

"But if they do not act, we will strike. We will target that country’s interests," Rezaei warned.

Tehran threatens oil routes

Rezaei also said that Iran could attack alternative routes for transporting oil from the Persian Gulf if regional states join US plans to exert economic pressure on Tehran.

Thus, Iran's threats concern not only political support for the US but also the potential involvement of neighboring countries in providing alternative oil supply routes.

At the same time, according to media reports, Iran has considered expanding the list of potential targets beyond the Middle East.

News context

Days ago, Trump said he was launching the "most crushing economic operation" against Iran in history. According to him, any country whose financial institutions or companies help Tehran circumvent the pressure will also face severe economic consequences.

Trump also said he intended to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory, although Iran mocked the statement, calling it impossible to establish control over the strait through a social media post.
