Iran denies signing a preliminary ceasefire agreement with the US on Sunday, as announced by American leader Donald Trump together with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to Reuters.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Saturday warned against commenting on the timing of signing the agreement with Washington.

"We will have to wait and see about the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, although it will not be tomorrow," Baghaei was quoted as saying by state media on Saturday.

At the same time, he did not rule out that the agreement could be signed in the very near future.

"The possibility of this happening in the coming days cannot be ruled out. However, due to the hesitation of the other side, we must be cautious in making any comments about this process," the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

On Saturday in Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator in the US-Iran negotiations, it was announced that a peace agreement between the countries would be signed the next day, June 14. The announcement was made by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

US President Donald Trump also claimed that an agreement between Tehran and Washington had been reached. On Saturday evening, he posted on social media that the document would be signed tomorrow.

Among other things, the White House chief announced that, under the agreement, Tehran would abandon its nuclear ambitions, although on the same day Iran reported that discussions on the nuclear issue were not yet concluded and would be postponed.

Reuters notes — this is not the first time both sides have appeared close to a preliminary ceasefire agreement. Previously, Trump also announced an imminent signing of a peace, but that never happened.
