The Iranian government has issued a direct demand to Germany to clarify the role of Ramstein, the largest US air base in Europe, in the current military conflict, according to digi24.

Iran’s ambassador to Berlin, Majid Nili, states in an interview with AFP that the role of Ramstein Air Base, which serves as the headquarters of the US Air Force in Europe and Africa, remains officially unclear. Tehran suspects that Washington's use of this facility violates international law.

Legal trap: UN resolution 3314

The Iranian side cites UN Resolution 3314, which states that a state may not make its territory available to other countries for the purpose of committing acts of aggression against third parties.

"We asked them to clarify or explain Ramstein’s role. To date, we have not received any response," the diplomat emphasizes.

Berlin's position: No doubts about legality

Despite pressure from Tehran, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius states that he currently sees no grounds to question the legality of using the Ramstein base. The German government emphasizes that the activities of US military personnel on German territory are strictly regulated by existing international treaties.

Ultimatum and threats to Europe

The Iranian ambassador warns that ignoring the situation surrounding Ramstein will have direct consequences for Europe:

  • Economic turmoil: The war in the region is already impacting global markets.
  • Refugee crisis and terrorism: Further destabilization of the Middle East will trigger new waves of migration.
  • Blockade of shipping: Nili reminded that the Strait of Hormuz is effectively blocked to those who support the "aggressors".

Tehran is insisting on an immediate and long-term ceasefire, and is also raising the issue of financial compensation for strikes on civilian targets. While Berlin remains silent, tensions surrounding the US's main military hub in Europe continue to rise.
