Iran has offered the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, in return, Tehran demands that the US lift its blockade of Iranian ports, Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad, Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, said, citing the Associated Press.

According to the diplomat, Iran recently conveyed through Pakistan its willingness to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Washington lifts its naval blockade of the ports.

He accused US President Donald Trump of rejecting the proposal while insisting on continuing the blockade of Iranian ports.

Reza Amiri Moghadam added that Iran remains open to negotiations with the US under the interim agreement to end the war reached in June with Pakistan's mediation.

Pakistan and Qatar helped the parties reach an agreement in June aimed at restoring shipping through the strait, lifting the US naval blockade, and launching negotiations on a broader agreement regarding Iran's nuclear program.

Threat of renewed conflict in the Middle East

Media outlets reported days ago that US President Donald Trump may soon launch a new phase of the war against Iran. According to sources, such actions could take place before or after the midterm elections to Congress.

Media also reported that, according to US intelligence, Iran may be preparing assassination attempts against American officials. In response, Washington has begun evacuating some diplomats from Middle Eastern countries without making public announcements.
