Iran issues statement on talks with US

Iran's leadership has not yet made a decision on resuming negotiations with the United States, according to Mehr.
"No decision has yet been taken to resume talks with America," Araghchi said.
According to him, mediators Qatar and Pakistan continue to exchange messages and remain in contact with Tehran, but this does not constitute negotiations.
"Islamabad MoU provided for an 'end to the war,' but the United States had violated it and fighting had resumed. We did not have a ceasefire to extend; we had an end to the war, which has now entered a new situation," the minister said.
Regarding the ongoing talks with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said discussions are focused on technical issues and determining shipping routes.
"The routes that previously existed no longer work, and a new route must be defined. We are currently designing a temporary route, which will later become the final one," the foreign minister added.
According to him, specialists and military personnel from both countries are involved in this negotiating track, and a result could be reached in the near future.
Araghchi also stressed that the technical consultations on determining the route are being held separately from any talks on resuming transit through the strait.
"Whether the Strait of Hormuz reopens or not depends on the fulfilment of other conditions to which America must adhere," the Iranian minister said.
Earlier, media reports said that the US and Iran had tentatively agreed to extend a 60-day ceasefire, which expires on August 17. However, the sides have yet to determine how long the agreement will be extended.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he plans to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory in the near future.
At the same time, he did not explain exactly how Washington plans to grant the strategic waterway such a status. Iran and Oman have jurisdiction over parts of the strait.
