Iranian military forces attacked cargo vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz using drones. One of the drones struck a civilian ship, stated US President Donald Trump on Truth Social.

Details of the attack and consequences

According to Trump, the Islamic Republic of Iran launched at least four one-way attack drones at ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

One of the drones hit the upper deck of a large and expensive cargo vessel. Despite the damage, the ship was able to continue its journey. Three other hostile drones were reportedly shot down.

Trump stressed that such actions constitute a direct violation of agreements.

"Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our ceasefire agreement," he said.

Situation in the Strait of Hormuz

Tensions around this strategic maritime route remain high. Recently, Iran attacked a civilian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz sailing under the Singapore flag.

At that time, near the coast of Oman, a cargo ship was hit by an unknown projectile, damaging the vessel’s bridge. Tehran stated that it would not guarantee the safety of ships that do not use the northern route it has approved.

The incident occurred despite US President Donald Trump announcing just days earlier the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz for international trade.

The US leader emphasized that record volumes of oil were transported through the route, and Washington continues negotiations to stabilize the security situation in the region.
