iOS 27 brings Apple’s best camera upgrade yet — but not every iPhone will get it

Apple will finally turn the standard iPhone Camera app into a much more powerful photography tool. With the release of iOS 27, the app will gain a range of professional features that previously required installing third-party apps, according to MacRumors.
What will change in the app’s interface?
Alongside the presentation of the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max smartphones, Apple showcased a completely redesigned "Camera" app.
The updated interface gives users more manual control when taking photos and recording videos.
Main updates
New menu placement: the menu button, which hides all the other settings, is now prominently positioned to the right of the main shutter button.
More convenient navigation: after tapping this button, iOS 27 not only allows users to select the options they need but also replaces the top row of buttons on the screen. As a result, accessing many features now requires just one tap instead of two.
Customization: all the settings displayed in this panel can be freely customized to suit individual needs.
Professional features and device support
The main new feature of the redesigned "Camera" app is a range of tools for precise frame adjustments.
During the announcement of the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple demonstrated the ability to manually adjust key shooting parameters:
- manual shutter speed adjustment;
- precise white balance adjustment;
- manual focus;
- a histogram that makes it much easier to assess the exposure level in the frame.
It remains unclear exactly which iPhone models will support all of these manual features.
At the same time, it is known that the variable aperture remains an exclusive feature of only the latest flagship smartphones.
Meanwhile, most of the new software features in the app will also be available to owners of older models — from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 17 Pro.
The official release of iOS 27 is scheduled for Monday, September 14, for all compatible iPhone models.
