Living long is a desire for many of us. It's no secret that proper nutrition is the key to good health. What to eat to live longer, reports Express.

What to eat for longevity

Yes, Dr. Sarah Kayat once again emphasized the importance of including fruits and vegetables in your diet. When asked which vegetable is the healthiest, the physician responded that it's broccoli.

"It’s cheap, it’s easily accessible, but it’s brilliant. It’s got a chemical called sulforaphane in it and it’s been shown that this is an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory," she said.

A few hours after consuming broccoli, you'll find that these levels increase in your blood, aiding your immune defense.

Sulforaphane is also known for its cancer-fighting properties. Research has linked it to reducing the risk of prostate cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, and oral cavity cancer.

Broccoli also contains Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and other nutrients.

For instance, Vitamin A is beneficial for the eyes; it's necessary to reduce the risk of cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, and declining vision as we age.

Several studies have also shown that broccoli can support heart health in various ways.

Elevated levels of bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides are a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. But broccoli can play a role in improving these indicators.
