People often suffer from dry skin in winter when heating systems are turned on, but these consequences can be countered by bringing plants into the house, according to Express.

What you need to know about dry skin in winter

The skin requires the same care as other parts of the body, such as internal organs. It can become dry at any age, but winter is particularly harsh on the skin due to the lower moisture levels in the air.

As the temperature drops each day, heating systems typically run longer, emitting hot air with dangerously low moisture content, which depletes the skin.

Your skin becomes painful, irritated, and flaky due to the warm air in the apartment and the lack of moisture.

Which plants should you have

Experts recommend having two indoor plants. It has been proven that indoor plants, such as the Areca palm or spider plants (Chlorophytum), act as natural air humidifiers.

Plants increase the air's humidity by releasing water from the soil into the air, which can counteract the drying effects of central heating.

As additional preventive measures, it's also recommended to drink water as it moisturizes the skin from within.

"Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, especially when reaching for dehydrating warming drinks over winter," experts advise.
