India's Defense Research and Development Organization has successfully tested a quasi-ballistic missile called Pralay, which has a range of about 500 kilometers, says Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

“DRDO successfully conducted the flight test of the indigenously developed Pralay Missile off the coast of Odisha,” the Indian defense minister’s statement reads.

According to him, the tests were conducted as part of evaluation trials involving the client, and all objectives were successfully achieved, as confirmed by data collected using various measuring instruments at the test site.

“This successful trial marks another significant milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities,” the defense minister added.

The Pralay solid-fuel surface-to-surface missile has a claimed range of 150 to 500 km. It is equipped with a solid-fuel rocket engine, a modern navigation system, and integrated onboard electronics.

A distinctive feature of quasi-ballistic missiles is their ability to fly along a lower trajectory than conventional ballistic missiles, as well as to perform maneuvers that make them more difficult for missile defense systems to detect and intercept.
