In anticipation of Israel's retaliation. Iran suspends indirect talks with US
Iran has halted indirect negotiations with the United States in Oman due to heightened tensions surrounding potential Israeli retaliation for the recent large-scale bombardment, according to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to the news agency, Oman, located on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, has long served as a mediator between Iran and the United States, including in secret negotiations that eventually led to the 2015 nuclear deal.
"For the time being, the Muscat process is stopped because of special situation in the region. We do not see any ground for the talks until we can pass the current crisis," said the minister during his visit to Muscat.
Massive Strike on Israel
On October 1, Iran launched a strike on Israeli territory using ballistic missiles. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, the country's air defense systems destroyed a large number of enemy targets.
In total, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Iran fired approximately 200 missiles. The United States assisted Israel in intercepting the missiles using its military resources. The United Kingdom also joined in the defense against the attack.
Iran justified its strike as a response to the elimination of several high-ranking officials, including Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and Iranian General Abbas Nilforoushan.
Details of the attack can be found in the RBC-Ukraine material.
