Important resolution on Ukraine's territories introduced in US Congress

The US has introduced a bipartisan resolution on Ukraine, rejecting any Russian claims to sovereign Ukrainian territory, stated Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.
"Just as we refused to recognize the Soviet annexation of the Baltic states, we must never legitimize Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Borders cannot be redrawn by force," he said.
Fitzpatrick stressed that Ukraine’s sovereignty is inviolable, its independence is absolute, and any attempt to recognize Russia’s claims would be a betrayal of international law and democratic values.
"That’s why, alongside NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation leads, Congressman Mike Turner and Congressman Gerry Connolly, I introduced the Non-Recognition Resolution - a defining statement of US policy against Putin’s illegal war," he explained.
What this resolution does
The congressman stated that the resolution rejects any claims by Russia to Ukraine’s sovereign territories, including Crimea, as well as the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
He emphasized that the resolution ensures no US policy or action will recognize Russia’s illegal occupation.
Additionally, he noted that the document reaffirms the United States’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s independence, territorial integrity, and international law.
Yesterday, during a discussion with national security advisors from G7 leaders, Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, also stressed that Ukraine’s pursuit of peace does not mean it is willing to compromise on sovereignty or territorial integrity.
In recent days, Türkiye reaffirmed its support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Notably, Ankara made this statement ahead of the anniversary of Russia’s occupation of Crimea.
Meanwhile, US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, previously suggested that Ukraine might have to make territorial concessions as part of a potential peace process.
