If he supports Putin, then he will be 'against Americans': Zelenskyy on Trump
If Donald Trump manages to become the President of the United States again and decides to support Russia, led by dictator Vladimir Putin, it would be "against Americans", Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with CNN.
According to Zelenskyy, he doesn't understand how Trump could be on Putin's side at a time when Russia's war in Ukraine is reaching a decisive moment.
"It's unbelievable," he said.
Zelenskyy stated that he believes Trump, who also claimed that he would end the conflict in one day if elected, does not understand Putin's goals.
"I think Donald Trump doesn’t know Putin,” Zelensky said. “I know he met him… but he never fought with Putin. (The) American army never fought with the army of Russia. Never… I have a better understanding," Zelenskyy said.
In Zelenskyy's opinion, Trump doesn't grasp the fact that Putin will never stop.
Trump's peace initiatives
In March 2023, Donald Trump promised his supporters to end Russia's war against Ukraine within 24 hours if elected President of the United States in the November 5th elections this year.
He also mentioned that he would allow Russia to take part of Ukrainian territory to avoid war.
Recently, Trump stated that if re-elected President of the United States, he would seek negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Trump also threatened that if re-elected, he would not defend NATO allies who don't "pay the bills."
He also added that he would instead encourage Russia to attack such countries.
31 NATO countries committed to spending 2% of their GDP on defense, but not all have done so individually.
