Iconic director David Lynch dies after battling severe lung disease

At the age of 78, iconic American director and Oscar winner David Lynch has died. The celebrity's family has already commented on the tragic loss on social media.
It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time," reads a statement from Lynch’s family, posted on his official Facebook page.
The cause of death and other details have not yet been disclosed. However, it is known that Lynch had been battling emphysema, a diagnosis he received several years ago due to heavy smoking. In November last year, it was revealed that the celebrity could no longer go on walks without an oxygen mask.

What to know about David Lynch
The legendary filmmaker left an indelible mark on cinema. While still a student in art school, Lynch created experimental short films and later became the visionary behind cult classics such as Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and the iconic TV series Twin Peaks.
Lynch received three Academy Award nominations for Best Director for Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, and Mulholland Drive. He was also awarded an honorary Oscar in 2019. Additionally, he won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990 for Wild at Heart.
The director founded the David Lynch Foundation, focusing on education initiatives. Beyond film, he was a painter, music producer, and collaborator with artists such as Julee Cruise, Lykke Li, and Karen O.
Lynch also maintained a unique presence on YouTube, sharing daily weather forecasts in his own style. In 2011, he opened a nightclub in Paris.
In 2018, the director told The Guardian that he enjoyed making films and working but was not particularly fond of being in the public eye.

Support for Ukraine
In 2017, the director visited Kyiv, and after the start of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, he voiced his support for Ukraine.
His foundation in Eastern Europe is implementing a mental rehabilitation program for Ukrainians affected by the war. Additionally, on his YouTube channel, he called on the Russian president to end the aggression and stop the spread of death and destruction in Ukraine.

By the way, Lynch was one of the few modern directors with a distinctive visual and verbal style. Although his works never achieved massive box office success, he remained a favorite among film critics, and his artistry inspired a unique cult following.
In his personal life, Lynch was married four times. He also had a long-term relationship with Blue Velvet star Isabella Rossellini.
