ICE agent shoots woman during protest in US, Trump cites self-defense

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot a woman who, according to American authorities, attempted to ram a patrol vehicle, according to the US Department of Homeland Security on X and ABC News.
The incident occurred during a protest against ICE’s enforcement of immigration laws.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that the woman’s actions are being treated as an act of domestic terrorism and that the use of firearms by the officer was considered self-defense.
“Attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them - an act of domestic terrorism,” the agency coordinating ICE operations said in a statement.
The statement also noted that the ICE officer opened fire out of concern for his own life, the lives of his colleagues, and the safety of civilians.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the woman was in a vehicle blocking the roadway. An ICE officer approached her, after which the vehicle began moving, and at least two shots were fired.
According to CBS, the woman who was killed is 37-year-old Renee Good, a US citizen and resident of Minneapolis.
The city’s mayor, Jacob Frey, sharply criticized the federal government’s stance, particularly the characterization of the shooting as self-defense, calling it a false narrative.
The Department of Homeland Security also reported that some ICE officers were injured, but assured that all will make a full recovery. The number of injuries and their severity were not specified.
Trump’s reaction
US President Donald Trump responded to the incident, saying he had reviewed the video and described the event as horrible.
Trump wrote that the ICE agent acted in self-defense.
According to Trump, the woman behaved extremely erratically, interfered with officers’ actions, resisted, and then deliberately struck an ICE officer with her vehicle.
The president also blamed radical leftists for threats and attacks on American law enforcement officers.
Fight against illegal immigration
Donald Trump has announced plans to take a radical approach to combating illegal immigration in 2026.
Trump intends to significantly expand workplace immigration raids, increase the number of ICE and Border Patrol agents, and open new detention centers.
He has also broadened the categories of people subject to deportation, including Haitians, Venezuelans, and Afghans, with a goal of deporting approximately 1 million people annually.
It was reported that in November, federal immigration agents conducted a large-scale operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, during which at least 81 people were detained for violating immigration laws.
