ICC head states Putin will not escape justice for crimes in Ukraine
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will not escape justice for crimes committed by Russian troops in Ukraine, according to the head of the International Criminal Court, Tomoko Akane.
Judge Akane, who issued the warrant for the Russian dictator's arrest, quoted Putin as saying: "Heaven's vengeance is slow but sure" to show that he would eventually get what he deserved.
"As long as there is evidence and a need, we must issue (the arrest warrant) no matter the circumstances or political background," she says.
Also, the head of the International Criminal Court admitted that there were problems, even though the warrants were issued since it was not possible to arrest anyone from the Russian leadership.
Putin's arrest warrant
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Also, the warrant was issued in the name of Maria Lvova-Belova, the commissioner under the president of Russia for the rights of the child.
It was Tomoko Akane who issued the arrest warrant for the dictator. In March 2024, she headed the International Criminal Court. She was the first representative of Japan in this position.
In Russia, Tomoko Akane was wanted for having issued a warrant for Putin's arrest.
