Hungary makes sharp turn on Russia, calling Moscow threat to Europe

Russia poses a threat not only to Hungary but also to European security and the international order, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar and his government have concluded, according to Magyar Közlöny, Hungary's official government gazette.
Budapest's new official position on Russia is reflected in the instructions for the Hungarian delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
It is worth noting that this document was signed by Péter Magyar himself.
It states that Hungary condemns Russia's war against Ukraine and supports its sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
In addition, it states that Budapest recognizes Ukraine's right to self-defense.
The document separately emphasizes that Russia's actions pose a threat to Hungary, Europe, and the international order.
Moreover, it states that they create serious risks for the Hungarian minority living in Zakarpattia.
Against this backdrop, Péter Magyar's government announced its support for efforts aimed at launching negotiations to achieve lasting peace and long-term security guarantees.
After winning the parliamentary elections in the fall, Magyar also publicly stated that Russia poses a threat to Europe.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote an open letter to Magyar and invited him to Kyiv.
In addition, it was explained why Hungary is once again blocking Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
