Hungary blocks EU statement on second anniversary of war in Ukraine
Hungary is blocking a joint statement by the European Union on the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak.
"Now Hungary is blocking a joint EU statement on the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine," he said.
He added that it is most likely expected to be a joint statement from the heads of the three EU institutions (council, commission, parliament).
Orbán's controversial stance
Hungary continues to maintain active trade and diplomatic relations with Russia despite the full-scale war in Ukraine. Budapest refuses to provide military assistance to our country.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has repeatedly blocked the imposition of sanctions against Russia, as well as assistance to Ukraine from the European Union.
It has recently become known that Hungary has blocked 13 EU sanctions packages against Russia.
However, the EU has managed to implement a sanctions package ahead of the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
