How to prepare bread before eating not to gain weight
Bread is often considered the enemy when losing weight, but it's not. A doctor has shared how freezing bread can turn carbohydrates into fiber, reports The Mirror.
Details of the method
Dr. Karen Alarcon suggests that those who want to shed those extra pounds freeze their bread and then reheat it before eating. This method not only extends the shelf life of the bread but also boasts some unexpected health benefits.
The change in temperature converts carbohydrates into "prebiotic fiber" that can improve the gut microbiome, regulate glucose levels, and reduce blood sugar spikes. These benefits can boost concentration, and energy levels, and help avoid overeating.
Regulating glucose levels can even lead to better sleep and skin health. Freezing bread also turns its easily digestible starches into resistant ones, making them harder for the body to break down and more likely to be excreted.
This reduces calorie intake from bread while aiding digestion and post-meal satiety.
The body can more easily handle starch when it is heated, so reheating bread after it has been frozen can reduce bloating and gas. However, the doctor warned that this trick only works if you consume high-quality bread, namely sourdough and whole wheat flour.
This temperature trick can also be applied to other popular carbohydrates like pasta and rice by simply cooking them and then cooling them in the refrigerator before eating. But remember that no amount of heating or freezing can replace the benefits of a balanced diet, which should include plenty of vegetables and minimal amounts of ultra-processed foods.
How to choose healthy bread
When choosing bread, you should focus on the following indicators: the type of flour, the amount of various additives, salt, and sugar.
It is better to choose bread baked from whole grains or bran, as it contains shells rich in fiber, vitamins B and E, as well as iron, zinc, and selenium.
