How many border checkpoints did Polish farmers block: Ukrainian border guard responds
Polish farmers blocked one border checkpoint on November 23 on the border with Ukraine. This concerns the Medyka - Shehyni checkpoint, informs spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, during a telethon.
"At the moment, we have not received any additional information from our Polish colleagues about the blockade, which could extend to other checkpoints. However, we remember that a few weeks ago, a protest was announced specifically at the Shehyni checkpoint, but it did not begin at that time. Today, Polish farmers initiated these actions," said the spokesperson.
Demchenko advised truck drivers to redirect to other border checkpoints with Poland while the protest continues at Medyka - Shehyni. According to him, traffic is not blocked at other checkpoints, either for outgoing or incoming freight trucks.
The State Border Guard Service spokesman also emphasized that Polish farmers are only restricting truck movement. Passenger cars and buses are crossing without any issues.
Border blockade
On Saturday, November 23, Polish farmers began a new protest at the Medyka - Shehyni border checkpoint with Ukraine. The farmers are restricting truck movement, allowing only one vehicle per hour to pass. Other vehicles are passing normally.
The farmers explained that their protest is due to increased taxes imposed by the Polish government and the EU's signing of a free trade agreement with South American countries.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine stressed that Polish farmers have no demands regarding Ukrainian goods. They are using the border blockade as a tool to pressure their government.
