House Speaker useful to Russia due to refusal to put Ukraine aid bill to vote, White House
The inaction of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, regarding the review of the new $60 billion aid to Ukraine benefits Russia and Iran, stated the Deputy Speaker of the White House, Andrew Bates.
Bates noted that Iran is actively supporting Russia's war against Ukraine and its attacks on peaceful Ukrainian cities.
"President Biden is standing up to Iran. But where is Speaker Johnson's supposed commitment not to 'appease Iran' in all this? Nowhere. Instead, his inaction is benefiting Putin and the Ayatollah (to the Iranian leader - ed.)," he added.
What preceded
The USA has been unable to approve new funding for aid to Ukraine for several months, which makes the supply of weapons to the Armed Forces impossible.
Recently, the US Senate approved a bill with 60 billion dollars for Ukraine. But in order for the funds to be sent to military aid to our country, the initiative must be supported by the House of Representatives.
House Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to bring the bill to a vote. He wants aid to Ukraine to be considered in conjunction with money to protect the US border from migrants.
At the same time, the House of Representatives took a two-week break on February 16 after discussions on the bill on financial assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. It will end on February 28.
