Hookah smoking is more harmful than regular cigarettes
The World Health Organization warns that hookah smoking is a highly harmful habit that inflicts as much damage to the body in one hour as smoking 100 cigarettes.
Sources: the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, and cardiologist Bohdan Avramenko.
According to medical experts, a hookah smoker inhales 30-40 times more smoke than a cigarette smoker. Flavor and aroma additives in hookah mixtures are designed to facilitate the inhalation of larger amounts of smoke.
One hour of hookah smoking inflicts the same damage to the human body as smoking 100 cigarettes.
Hookah is a tobacco product that contains nicotine. Prolonged use of hookah is considered to be directly linked to nicotine addiction, which can lead to simultaneous use of other tobacco products.
There is no safe form of smoking. Indoor hookah smoking is the most common violation of anti-tobacco laws. Such smoking harms not only those who smoke but also everyone nearby.
As noted by cardiologist Bohdan Avramenko, hookah smoking is currently a very popular pastime among young people. This poses a threat and danger from a cardiological perspective in the future.
"The amount of combustion products and carbon monoxide in a hookah is many times greater than in a regular cigarette. Consequently, the more you smoke, the worse it is not only for the heart but also for the lungs. The development of lung, oropharyngeal, and esophageal cancer is significantly higher," the doctor says.
Hookah smoking releases various chemical substances into the air, including polycyclic hydrocarbons, which are carcinogens, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter, posing serious risks to those around.
