Several historical sites in Kyiv and Lviv have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list, and they are currently under threat, according to UNESCO's press service.

As indicated by the organization, the following sites have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list and are currently under threat:

  1. Lavra of Kyiv-Pechersk
  2. The Saint Sophia Cathedral and Related Monastic Buildings
  3. Lviv – the ensemble of the historic centre

UNESCO explains that optimal conditions are no longer being maintained to fully guarantee the protection of these outstanding universal value sites, and they are potentially threatened due to the war.

This decision opens up the possibility of receiving additional financial and technical assistance to implement new extraordinary measures for the protection of these sites.

What has already been added to the UNESCO list

The historic center of Odesa was previously included in the UNESCO World Heritage list under threat in January 2023.
