Historic breakthrough: Two Ukrainian tennis stars enter WTA top 10

The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has updated its world rankings following the final Grand Slam tournament of the season — the 2026 US Open. The main event for Ukrainian tennis was Marta Kostyuk's historic breakthrough into the elite top 10, giving Ukraine two representatives in the top 10 for the first time, according to the official WTA website.
Historic success for Ukrainian women in the top 10
With a strong performance and a run to the US Open round of 16, Marta Kostyuk pushed American Amanda Anisimova out of the top 10. Overall, Kostyuk became only the second Ukrainian woman, after Elina Svitolina, to reach this milestone.
Svitolina not only retained her place in the top 10 but also climbed two spots and currently sits at No. 7.
Success for Ukrainian women in the top 50 and beyond
In addition, six Ukrainian tennis players now rank among the world's top 50, an absolute record:
- Oleksandra Oliinykova — No. 41 (career-high);
- Daria Snigur — No. 42 (career-high);
- Yuliia Starodubtseva — No. 43 (debut in the top 50 after reaching the third round of the US Open);
- Anhelina Kalinina — No. 47;
It is also worth noting the achievements of other Ukrainian tennis players. Dayana Yastremska climbed to No. 110, while Veronika Podrez (No. 126) and Anastasiia Sobolieva (No. 181) set new career highs.
Changes at the top of the world rankings
Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina is the new world No. 1 after defeating the previous leader, neutral Aryna Sabalenka, in the final of the US major. Sabalenka had held the top spot for 99 weeks (since October 2024), but has now surrendered the crown.
For Rybakina, this is her first time becoming the world's No. 1. The updated WTA top 10 is as follows:
- Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) — 9,901 points;
- Aryna Sabalenka (-) — 7,875;
- Jessica Pegula (USA) — 7,265;
- Coco Gauff (USA) — 7,244;
- Mirra Andreeva (-) — 5,743;
- Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) — 5,328;
- Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) — 4,809;
- Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) — 4,683;
- Iga Swiatek (Poland) — 4,619;
- Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) — 3,980.
