Sweden has conducted unique military exercises in which even King Carl XVI Gustaf took part. The results of the exercises were presented not only in Swedish but also in Russian, according to the Swedish government’s press service.
During the exercises, a tense national security policy scenario was simulated, within which issues of war and military threats were addressed.
Participants in the exercises included:
-
The King of Sweden;
-
The Crown Princess of Sweden;
-
Members of the Swedish parliament;
-
The Swedish Armed Forces;
-
The Civil Contingencies Agency.
The Swedish government noted that exercises of this scale and with such a range of participants were held "for the first time since the 1990s."
"The exercise has been carried out at the Government’s initiative. It is important to conduct exercises jointly, not least in light of the present security situation. Step by step and exercise by exercise, we are strengthening Sweden’s total defence and resilience," the government said.
The main goal of such activities is to discuss what would be required to maintain Sweden’s security in the hypothetical scenario. The exercises were also aimed at enhancing cooperation among representatives of various institutions.
Drone incidents in Sweden
In early November, unknown drones were spotted in Sweden’s airspace.
In particular, they were flying near Gothenburg–Landvetter Airport. As a result, the airport was temporarily closed, and some flights were redirected to other cities.
On September 27, unknown drones were also observed near Sweden’s main naval base.
