Head of European Commission: 'If Russia stops fighting, the war is over'
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen addressed Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit, accusing him of attempting to destroy Ukraine, according to the European Commission's Press corner.
Initially, she addressed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that the world continues to experience numerous crises and witnesses the escalation of destruction and wars, as well as the blatant denial of the existing global order and world architecture.
Then she turned to Putin, accusing him of attempting to destroy the sovereign state of Ukraine and trying to provoke regional instability.
"If Russia stops fighting, the war is over," Ursula von der Leyen said.
What Putin said at the G20 summit
It was previously reported that speaking via video link at the G20 summit, the Kremlin leader could not avoid the topic of the war in Ukraine unleashed by Russia. Cynically, he stated that one should "think about how to stop this tragedy."
"Military actions are always a tragedy for specific people, specific families, and the country as a whole. Of course, we have to think about how to stop this tragedy. By the way, Russia has never refused to hold peace talks with Ukraine," Putin said.
