California Governor Gavin Newsom sharply criticized US President Donald Trump over his economic policy and new global tariffs. The governor accused Trump of corruption and acting in personal interest, Newsom said in an interview with CNN.

A "wrecking ball" presidency

According to the governor, US economic indicators significantly worsened when Trump came to power.

"1.4% GDP growth in the last quarter. Inflation back up to 3%. The worst jobs market we've seen since 2013. 2.2% GDP for the entire year. He inherited 2.8. It's a wrecking ball presidency. He's wrecking this economy," Newsom said.

He also criticized Trump's economic model, calling it one based on mass deportations, tax breaks for billionaires, and tariff policy.

Corruption accusations

Separately, the governor focused on tariffs, saying they bring personal benefit to the US president.

"And by the way, the tariff, this is a self-deing operation. This is about his personal portfolio. You know exactly what he did in Vietnam with the tariffs. He used them to get a deal on his golf course to fast-track his development. Connect the dots. This is unprecedented grift happening in real time," Newsom stressed.

In conclusion, the governor directly called Trump a "fraud."

Earlier, the Trump administration announced the introduction of new global tariffs for all countries of world. Initially, it was about 10%.

The US Supreme Court canceled Trump's global tariffs — then the US president said he would raise them to 15%, and the court decision he simply ignored.
