Hayden Panettiere’s personal life
The actress’s personal life was under close media scrutiny for many years. Panettiere was engaged to Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko. The former couple has a daughter, Kaya, who was born on December 9, 2014.
As is known, after giving birth, Hayden struggled with depression for a long time, which led to substance dependence. Klitschko later sought full custody of their daughter, so the girl grew up with her father while maintaining contact with her mother.
According to the actress, she was only beginning treatment at the time, so she did not want to put herself through a lengthy international legal battle and agreed to give up custody of her daughter. The decision remained with her forever.
“No mother could ever forget a single detail of the day she gave up her child,” she emphasized.
At the same time, she admitted that “the fact that the family fell apart still hurts.”

In recent years, the actress spoke openly about the difficult periods in her life. In her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, she wrote about child stardom, motherhood, mental health and the death of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere.
Jansen died in 2023 at the age of 28. Hayden later spoke about the devastating loss and the feelings of guilt she experienced following her brother’s death.
According to media reports, the day before her death, Panettiere flew south from Los Angeles with her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson. They began dating in 2018, but their relationship was unstable.
In 2020, they split after Hickerson was arrested for domestic violence against the actress. They resumed contact in 2021 after his release from prison.
How Hayden supported Ukraine
The actress repeatedly expressed her solidarity with Ukrainians. In December 2013, she traveled to Kyiv with her then-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko and spoke at the Maidan during the Revolution of Dignity.
Panettiere condemned Russia’s invasion and supported Ukraine through charitable work. In March 2022, she founded a nonprofit organization that raised funds to purchase medical supplies and protective equipment for those on the front lines.
“I have witnessed firsthand the strength of the Ukrainian people, who have fought so hard for their independence and have continued to fiercely defend their country for many years. What Putin is doing is an absolute disgrace!” she wrote in February 2022.
