Harris's campaign and affiliated groups raise $1 billion - Reuters
The presidential campaign of US Vice President Kamala Harris and related political committees have raised $1 billion since she became the Democratic Party's nominee, reports Reuters.
The agency reports that since Kamala Harris became a candidate for the presidency on July 21, replacing President Joe Biden, donations have surged to her campaign, as well as to affiliated action committees and the Democratic Party.
The Vice President raised $25 million on the day she was named the nominee and accumulated $500 million in about a month.
Meanwhile, former US President and current candidate Donald Trump, along with the Republican Party, raised $130 million in August. By the end of the month, they had $295 million in cash on hand, compared to $404 million for Harris and the Democrats.
According to recent polls from Reuters and Ipsos, the race between Harris and Trump remains tight. The Democrat's lead in national polling is narrowing, and in several battleground states, the race remains too close to call.
Sources told Reuters that the funds raised by Harris and the Democrats reflect the enthusiasm of donors ahead of the November 5 elections and will be directed toward advertising, operations in battleground states, and staffing.
