Harris acknowledges defeat in election and promises peaceful transfer of power
US presidential candidate Kamala Harris addressed her supporters for the first time following her election defeat. She acknowledged the results and pledged a peaceful transfer of power, reports Voice of America.
Harris confirmed that she had spoken with US President-elect Donald Trump, congratulating him on his victory.
“I know folks are feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now. I get it. But we must accept the results of this election. Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect (Donald) Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power,” Harris stated.
She emphasized that the core principle of American diplomacy is that if we lose an election, we accept it. The Vice President highlighted this as the primary distinction between democracy and monarchy or tyranny.
“At the same time, in our nation, we owe loyalty not to a president or a party, but to the Constitution of the US, and loyalty to our conscience and to our God,” she said.
During her speech in Washington, the Vice President expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her, saying her heart is filled with love for the US. Harris also thanked current President Joe Biden for his support.
