Today, militants of the Hamas terrorist group fired at Israel from the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip. This was the first time in four months, reports The Times of Israel.

According to the Times of Israel, Hamas militants fired 8 missiles into central Israel this afternoon from the besieged city of Rafah. It was the largest attack from the Gaza Strip in almost four months.

Three of the enemy missiles, according to the Israeli army, were shot down by the Iron Dome air defense system, and five fell in the open. One of the missiles landed near a school in Kibbutz Sa'ad, but there were no casualties. In the Tel Aviv suburbs, however, the fragments of a downed missile damaged a house and lightly injured two people.

One of the Israeli soldiers, who was near the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, took a photo showing traces of missiles coming from the besieged city.

Israel's war with Hamas

At the beginning of last October, Hamas militants entered Israel from the Gaza Strip and committed massacres of civilians in Israeli settlements. At the same time, Hamas launched missile attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip.

This attack was the beginning of Israel's war with Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. At present, Israeli troops have captured almost the entire territory of the enclave and surrounded its last city, Rafah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated the need to capture Rafah in order to destroy the last Hamas militants and end the war in the Gaza Strip. However, the international community is holding him back from this step, as the war with Hamas has caused a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and fighting in the city could further aggravate the situation.

On Friday, May 24, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must abandon its offensive on Rafah. Israel said it would continue its operation in the Gaza Strip despite the UN court's decision.
