In Kharkiv, a serviceman opened fire with an assault rifle near a children's playground, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing sources.

Preliminary data suggests that the man was in an inadequate state, possibly under the influence of some substance.

There were no injuries reported due to the incident. Police special forces detained the offender at the scene.

Local Telegram channels report that the incident took place at 72 Peremohy Avenue.

According to the National Police in the Kharkiv Region, today, May 31, at approximately 3:44 p.m. local time, police received a report that an unidentified individual in military uniform had opened indiscriminate fire with an automatic weapon in one of Kharkiv's residential neighborhoods - on Peremohy Avenue. Eyewitnesses also reported an explosion.

At 4:20 p.m., police stated that a special law enforcement operation, Thunder, had been launched.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers localized the situation, identified the suspect, and began negotiations. Despite the lawful demands of the police, the man refused to surrender.

Due to the coordinated actions by police special forces, the suspect was detained using special equipment and firearms.

"No civilians or police officers were injured. Operation Thunder was completed at 5:45 p.m," the police added.

The incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - hooliganism involving the use of a weapon.

Recently in Kyiv, an unidentified woman opened fire near the entrance of a residential building in the Dniprovskyi district.

While standing near the entrance, the woman fired a shot toward the building and then left the scene.

Not long before that, two men in Kyiv opened fire while driving a car. Police carried out a special operation and immediately detained the offenders.

Earlier, on Thursday, May 8, an unidentified individual opened fire in the Bucha district of Kyiv region. Reports of casualties followed.
