Group of Democrats publicly calls on Biden to withdraw from election
A group of nearly 20 Democrats from the US House of Representatives publicly called on US President Joe Biden to stop running for president in the 2024 elections, reports The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, 19 Democratic congressmen out of 213 in the House of Representatives and one Democratic senator have called on President Biden to drop out of the race.
“I believe the time has come for President Biden to pass the torch," said Mike Levin, a member of the House of Representatives from California.
At the same time, Vermont Senator Peter Welch directly called on Biden to withdraw his candidacy.
"For the good of the country, I’m calling on President Biden to withdraw from the race," he said.
The situation around the president escalated after an unsuccessful debate with his main opponent and former US President Donald Trump. Since then, public attention has been focused on Biden.
However, in recent weeks, Biden has repeatedly made mistakes during his speeches. Biden's most recent major gaffe was related to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
On the last day of the NATO summit, US President Joe Biden made a slip of the tongue and introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In its article, RBC-Ukraine explained whether Biden's remarks affect his rating.
