Four Greenlandic parties have agreed to form a new government following the elections held on March 11. In their coalition agreement, they have responded to US President Donald Trump's claims over Greenland, according to Danmarks Radio.

"We stand together for a safe, free, and developing Greenland," the coalition agreement states.

The text refers to Trump's statements that the United States should acquire the island. However, the signatories leave "no doubt that Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders."

"We decide our future. We must choose our partners. And we set the pace on this issue," the agreement further states.

Trump's statements on Greenland

Following his second inauguration, US President Donald Trump made the annexation of Greenland by Washington a central topic of discussion.

At times, the American president even suggested that the United States might use force to take control of Greenland.

The island’s residents oppose such intentions. Recently, around a thousand people gathered in the capital, Nuuk, for a protest - the largest demonstration in the island’s history. Protests also took place in Sisimiut, Greenland’s second-largest city.

A few days ago, President Trump stated that he wanted Greenland to become part of the US because it is "necessary for international security." Today, he reiterated this claim, emphasizing that the US "cannot do without Greenland."

However, earlier today, US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the United States has no plans to increase its military presence in Greenland.
