Vivek Ramaswamy to withdraw from Colorado primaries over Trump removal
U.S. presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy committed to pull himself out of the Colorado Republican primary ballot after the state Supreme Court ruled out former President Donald Trump ineligible to run for 2024 elections because of his involvement in the 2021 Capitol riot, according to ABC News and The Hill.
“I pledge to withdraw from the Colorado GOP primary ballot until Trump is also allowed to be on the ballot," he stated, urging his GOP primary contenders, including Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley, to take similar actions.
This statement followed the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling, which disqualified Trump from seeking the GOP presidential nomination in the state based on his violation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. It says that officeholders engaged in insurrection against the U.S. are not allowed to run for elections again.
Colorado's high court attributed Trump's insurrection to his actions in 2021 when he fueled his supporters with baseless allegations of election fraud, encouraging them to storm the Capitol. This decision marked Colorado as the first state so far to bar Trump from the future presidency.
