Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephu said that Russia's recent attacks on Ukraine require additional Western sanctions, informs Sky News.

"Putin is not interested in peace, he wants to continue this war, and we must not allow this, which is why the European Union will agree on additional sanctions," Wadephul said during a broadcast on ARD.

Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said new sanctions are already being developed. Earlier this week, she stated, "It's time to intensify pressure." She also noted that the bloc recently agreed on the 17th sanctions package.

Sanctions against Russia

Recently, Bloomberg reported that the European Commission is preparing a new sanctions package against Russia. It could become the largest since the full-scale war began. Discussions include restrictions on about two dozen tanks, trade bans exceeding 2.5 billion euros, and a new price cap on oil.

A few days ago, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that Ukraine considers a sanctions package proposed by US Senator Lindsey Graham very effective. His bill includes a 500% tariff on goods from countries that purchase Russian oil, uranium, and other products.

Sybiha noted that Ukraine is interested in integrating elements of this approach into the EU sanctions.
