Germany has updated its travel recommendations for Ukraine ahead of Independence Day. Berlin warned that Russian attacks on the country could intensify, according to Germany's Federal Foreign Office.

The German Foreign Office noted that fighting continues in Ukraine, while Russia carries out airstrikes almost daily using missiles, cruise missiles and drones. The danger may affect any part of the country.

The ministry separately highlighted Ukraine's Independence Day, which will be celebrated on August 24. An intensification of Russian attacks during this period cannot be ruled out.

According to the German side, both infrastructure facilities, including energy facilities and transportation hubs, and civilian targets could come under attack.

Germany also reminded its citizens that Ukraine's airspace is closed, so entry and exit are possible only by land.

What Germany advises its citizens

If a trip to Ukraine cannot be postponed for professional reasons, the German Foreign Office recommends developing a detailed security plan in advance.

Citizens are advised to install the Ukrainian app for receiving air raid alerts, identify the nearest shelter in advance, and follow announcements from local authorities and the media.

Germans are also advised to comply with curfew rules and register with the German Foreign Office's crisis response list.

The ministry separately warned that due to Russian aggression, the ability to provide assistance to German citizens in Ukraine remains very limited.

Meanwhile, in July 2026, Ukraine recorded the highest number of civilian casualties since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

According to the UN, at least 437 people were killed and another 2,610 were injured during the month.
