Germany halts arms exports to Israel - Reuters
Germany has suspended arms exports to Israel due to legal challenges related to violations of humanitarian law, according to Reuters.
The German Ministry of Economy reported that in 2023, Germany approved arms exports to Israel amounting to €326.5 million. However, by the end of August 2024, only €14.5 million in export permits had been issued, with just €32,449 allocated to military weapons.
A source close to the German Ministry of Economy stated that the reduction in arms exports is due to lawsuits accusing Germany of violating humanitarian law through its assistance to Israel.
Recently, the UK also suspended some arms licenses to Israel over concerns about their potential use in Gaza in violation of international law. Israel expressed deep disappointment with this decision.
