German Interior Ministry aims to investigate Bundestag deputies' ties with Russian Security Service
In the German government, there is a desire for a more careful analysis of the connections between the right-wing party Alternative for Germany and the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), states Federal Minister of Internal Affairs Nancy Faeser.
"We must continue to shed light on the connections between right-wing extremist networks and Russia," she states.
She adds that security agencies continue to closely monitor Russian influence in Germany.
The minister also emphasizes that Moscow's hand should not reach into the German parliament.
Russia is trying to undermine support for Ukraine
The head of the German Interior Ministry also stresses that current reports should concern everyone who did not take this danger seriously before.
She mentions that it has long been clear who allows themselves to be used in the propaganda machine of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
"The interest is to undermine trust in our democracy and undermine our support for Ukraine," the minister notes.
In her opinion, there are significant overlaps between Russian propaganda and narratives presented on the far-right flank (referring to the Alternative for Germany party).
Scandals involving Alternative for Germany
The German party Alternative for Germany adheres to right-wing radical and pro-Russian views.
In 2022, its deputies planned to visit Russia and then travel to the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Recently, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said that the country might ban the right-wing radical party Alternative for Germany, which holds pro-Russian views.
Yesterday, the media reported that deputies of the right-wing party Alternative for Germany coordinated the texts of their speeches with curators from the FSB, and at their direction, they sued their government to stop military aid to Ukraine.
