German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit to discuss further support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, according to n-tv.

“It is important for me to show with this trip that we continue to actively support Ukraine. This is a signal that Germany, as the largest NATO country in Europe, supports Ukraine. Not alone, but with the G5 and many other allies,” Pistorius said upon arrival.

The agency adds that shortly before Donald Trump took office, the German Defense Minister had already discussed further support for Kyiv with his colleagues from Poland, France, Italy, and Warsaw. Berlin is now willing to work with its partners to do more to strengthen Ukraine's defense industry.

Germany's support for Ukraine

Germany has become one of Ukraine's key partners amid the full-scale war. Berlin provides Kyiv with humanitarian, financial, and military assistance. In particular, the country has accepted Ukrainian refugees, providing them with housing, social assistance, and access to medical and educational services.

In terms of military assistance, Germany has provided Ukraine with modern equipment, including IRIS-T anti-aircraft systems, Leopard 2 tanks, and other weapons. In addition, the country actively supports sanctions against Russia and promotes diplomatic initiatives to consolidate international support for Ukraine.

At the end of December 2024, Germany handed over another large support package to Ukraine, which included IRIS-T, Patriot, and other air defense systems.
