Geomagnetic storms ahead in August - When to brace yourself and how to cope

Several magnetic storms are expected in August 2025. This natural phenomenon affects not only technology but also human well-being. The most powerful geomagnetic storms are forecast for the first half of the month, while the second half is expected to be calmer, according to scientists. Below is the full forecast of magnetic storms for August and how to protect your body from their effects.
Magnetic storm forecast
According to the NOAA space observatory, several strong storms and quite a few moderate ones are expected in August.
Red-level storms (Kp-5 and above): August 7, 9, 11, 13, 19
Moderate magnetic storms: August 4, 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, 20, 22
What is a magnetic storm?
A magnetic storm is a powerful disturbance of the Earth's magnetic field caused by solar activity: coronal mass ejections (CMEs), solar flares, or high-speed solar wind streams. When these particles reach Earth, they interact with the magnetosphere, creating geomagnetic fluctuations.
The intensity of magnetic storms is measured on the K-index scale (0–9), where anything above Kp-5 is considered a red-level storm, typically felt by most people on Earth.

How to protect yourself during a magnetic storm
You can't fully protect yourself from magnetic storms, but you can prepare and follow medical advice to minimize their impact:
- Monitor forecasts
- Avoid physical and emotional strain
- Stay away from stress and conflicts
- Get more rest and sleep
- Take walks
- Ventilate your home
