General Staff reveals North Korean losses in Kursk region: Thousands reported

North Korea has lost about 4,000 soldiers in battles against Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region. Most of them were seriously wounded, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The General Staff reminded that Russia has deployed units of the North Korean military to fight against Ukraine. In total, over 12,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Russia.
"The losses of this contingent since the beginning of operations in the Kursk region amount to about 4,000 troops, with over 3,000 wounded," Ukraine’s military command reported.
The General Staff added that of the four North Korean brigades, one has been destroyed and the remaining three have lost combat capability.
North Korea’s involvement in the war
North Korea is a close ally of Russia in its war against Ukraine, supplying ammunition, missiles, and even manpower to Moscow.
So far, Russian forces have primarily used North Korean troops for assaults in the Kursk region. However, North Korean forces have suffered heavy casualties due to inadequate preparation for large-scale war.
In January, rumors emerged that North Korean soldiers had been pulled from the front lines because of the severe losses.
On January 11, Ukrainian forces captured North Korean soldiers for the first time. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said Ukraine is ready to exchange them.
