Today, September 22, the TV series Friends celebrates its 32nd anniversary — it was on this day in 1994 that the first episode aired. Undoubtedly, the series became a cultural phenomenon and remains popular and relevant to this day. The six friends from New York gave us countless funny moments, hilarious jokes, heartwarming episodes, and, of course, iconic fashion looks.

RBC-Ukraine has selected five looks from the series that remain recognizable, interesting, and relevant to this day.

Monica’s red dress

Actress Courteney Cox has a striking and contrasting appearance — a combination of fair skin and dark hair. She is often classified as having a winter color palette, and this natural contrast is precisely why bright, clean shades suit her so well.

Monica often appeared on screen wearing red — dresses, T-shirts, and tops. It became a true signature of the character and an unmistakable part of her look.

Rachel’s mint-green dress

Rachel is the most stylish character in the series, as she is interested in fashion and trends, and later seasons see her begin working in the fashion industry. Her outfits are among the ones fans remember most, including the light green maxi dress Rachel wore in Episode 2 of Season 3, The One Where No One’s Ready.

In the episode, Ross is panicking because he is getting ready for an important evening at the museum, while his friends are not ready to go out, and Rachel still has no idea what to wear. At the end of the episode, Rachel walks out in a long mint-green dress with straps and looks stunning.

The look became legendary and instantly recognizable, while the episode itself remains one of the most talked-about — fans of the series still debate whether Ross’s nervous behavior went too far.

Rachel’s haircut

Undoubtedly, this is the most iconic look from the series and a true phenomenon. After the show became popular, fans around the world asked their hairdressers to recreate Rachel’s layered, graduated haircut with different lengths.

Jennifer Aniston herself admitted that she did not particularly like the haircut because it was difficult to style on her own, but the look still became instantly recognizable and hugely popular.

Joey in a black jacket and sunglasses

When Joey is mentioned, his look from the early seasons immediately comes to mind — jeans, a white T-shirt, and a black leather jacket/blazer/vest. Add black sunglasses and a medium-length hairstyle that slightly fell over his eyes and had a wet hair effect, and you get an iconic 1990s men’s fashion look.
