French Parliament calls for imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan
The French Senate recently adopted a resolution calling for sanctions against Azerbaijan, reports the Embassy of Armenia in France.
"Some time ago, the Senate of the French Republic adopted a resolution in support of Armenia and the demand for sanctions against Azerbaijan with a ratio of 336 votes," the statement said.
This resolution also urges the exclusion of Azerbaijan from the intergovernmental committee for the protection of cultural values in the event of an armed conflict.
It specifically emphasizes the need for the harshest measures, including the confiscation of Azerbaijani leaders' assets and the imposition of an embargo on the import of gas and oil from Azerbaijan.
Situation in Nagorno-Karabakh
On September 19 of this year, Azerbaijan announced the start of "counter-terrorism measures of a local nature" in Nagorno-Karabakh. An operation by the Azerbaijani army began in the region.
Armenia refused to redeploy its army to the region. The head of the Armenian government recognized the area of Azerbaijan as 86.6 thousand sq. km, including Nagorno-Karabakh.
However, a peaceful agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has not yet been reached.
From January 1, 2024, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic officially ceased to exist.
