French intelligence advises canceling Paris Olympics opening ceremony
French intelligence recommends canceling the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. Concerns are specifically triggered by the terrorist attack near Moscow, reports Europe 1.
The source of the media in the French General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) says that the current format of the opening ceremony is too risky. Therefore, intelligence services recommend switching to an alternative Plan B.
As the media says, the threat to the opening ceremony could come from armed attacks and terrorists who might use trucks to drive into crowds.
Intelligence also warns of the threat of sleeper terrorist groups that become active remotely from the Afghan zone.
Following the terrorist attack at the Russian Crocus City Hall, the terrorist threat level in France was raised to a maximum. Intelligence has intensified checks on citizens arriving from Central Asia.
The summer Olympic Games will take place in Paris between July 26 and August 11.
Athletes from Russia and Belarus were allowed to participate in the Olympics under a neutral status. However, Belarusian and Russian athletes were banned from participating in the delegation parade during the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
