A French court sentenced far-right leader Marine Le Pen to prison and barred her from running for public office. The United States has already reacted, expressing particular concern, according to Ukrinform.

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce responded to the ruling, referring to remarks by Vice President J.D. Vance, who recently spoke about freedom of speech and the political process.

Bruce emphasized that excluding individuals from the political process raises special concerns, especially given what she called an "aggressive and corrupt" legal case against former President Donald Trump in the United States.

She also disagreed with labeling Le Pen as "far-right," stating that such a description could be derogatory.

Furthermore, Bruce confirmed that Washington is aware of the reports about Le Pen's sentencing but declined to comment further.

On March 31, a French court found Marine Le Pen guilty of misusing European funds to finance her party. She was sentenced to four years in prison and banned from running for public office. Notably, France’s next presidential election will be in 2027.
