Flare thrown at Tusk's feet during event in Netherlands: Details

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk took part in memorial events in the Netherlands. While he was on stage, a lit flare was thrown at his feet, PAP reports.
The head of the Polish government arrived in the city of Wageningen to take part in events marking the liberation of the Netherlands from Nazi occupation. There, he was scheduled to light the Flame of Liberation together with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
During the ceremony, someone in the crowd threw a lit flare at Tusk’s feet. The Polish Prime Minister was quickly escorted off the stage.
After some time, Tusk returned to the stage, and the lighting of the Flame of Liberation ultimately took place.
The news agency notes that the incident was likely not directed specifically at Tusk. Among the crowd were people holding signs criticizing Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip.
Moreover, the first part of the event, during which Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans was speaking, was interrupted by people chanting pro-Palestinian slogans.
Liberation Day in the Netherlands
Liberation Day in the Netherlands is celebrated on May 5 and is a national holiday commemorating the end of Nazi occupation in 1945.
On this day, the Netherlands marks the victory of the Allied forces, including Canada and the United Kingdom, over the German troops that had occupied the country during World War II. The holiday symbolizes freedom and independence, with celebrations, concerts, and commemorative events held in cities across the country.
In June last year, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked in Copenhagen. She was struck by an unidentified man.
